Recently, the idea of swinging "Over The Top" is being advanced as a principle to help develop a solid repeating golf swing. Although not suggested in either of Ben Hogan's Books, there should be no objection to anything that offers insight to advance learning.
Nevertheless, at the end of day achieving "Parallel Thru Impact" remains the Cardinal Principle to bear in mind. In fact, the discovery of Mr. Hogan's "Double Parallel" @ Swing Address (Five Lessons, P. 50) solves the mystery.
Discussion: Players who "Do Not" establish the Double @ Address --"From The Hands Up"-- would have to "Adjust" in Transition so that Parallel Flow ensues through impact. Hence, a possible reason Over The Top can prove useful.
As it turns out, Mr. Hogan's "Peek-A-Boo" Parallel Back Shoulder is found in all Major Champions dating back to Harry Vardon & Francis Ouimet and, here too, no "Over The Top" Move proves necessary as the "Parallel Inside Track" automates correct "Parallel Flow" through impact.
Again, given the info Mr. Hogan provides on Page 50, there is no reason to introduce an additional move which can easily miss the Parallel required to achieve Reliable Square Impact Down The Line.
**Apostles of OTT would do well to study Page 50 of the Five Lessons which makes the OTT move unnecessary.
As it appears in Golf Research, the swing always performs as it should when Hogan Methods are in play. Given this, it's best to have a Parallel "Peek-Boo" Back Shoulder & employ the "Full Waggle" before having to search for an Over The Top "Adjustment" while the swing is in motion. -- In addition, it's virtually impossible to move "Shallow" Through The Ball that's characteristic of Major Champions.

(Kindly See "GOLF WINDOW" immediately below to appreciate the "Double Parallel" that presents as the Golf New Governing Law.

Incidently, this researcher is yet to see a true One Plane Swing .
Not even in "Moe Norman" or those who might make the claim.
